From the Peoria Independent:
Override Information Offered
Voters in the Peoria Unified School District are being asked to renew an existing Maintenance and Operations budget override for the district.
In order to share information about this upcoming Nov. 3 election, the Vote4PUSDkids.com committee is offering brief informational in-person presentations to any community groups seeking more information.
The presentation can include a PowerPoint slide show and fact sheets to be distributed to audience members.
For more information or to schedule a presentation before Nov. 3 contact committee member David Evans at 623-412-3919 or at djevans9@cox.net.
All five Peoria governing board members support the override renewal, which voters first approved in 1996 and have supported since then. The M&O budget override translates into about $18 million annually for the school district, with the majority of those monies directly funding salaries for teachers, librarians, nurses and other staff.
The Peoria district has 13 schools in Glendale and 26 schools in Peoria.“District officials cannot use taxpayer funds to campaign for the override, but can provide factual information about the request…Jan Wilson, committee treasurer, said because the commitee’s efforts will continue, additional monetary donations are needed. She said 100 percent of any money donated will be used for the campaign. Send contributions to Vote4PUSDkids.com, care of Jan Wilson, treasurer, 7168 W. Pershing Ave., Peoria, AZ 85381. Committee and override information is available at www.PUSDkids. com. “It takes money to get the word out,” Ms. Olsen said.
The group is also interested in volunteers, Ms. Olsen said. Anyone interested in assisting in the campaign can e-mail connect@vote4PUSDkids.com.”
