Give Your Teacher the Bird! Contest

Ironwood High School Booster Club recently announced a contest where teachers and staff can be nominated to receive a turkey - just in time for Thanksgiving!

Every school day now through Tuesday, November 20th one lucky Ironwood teacher will get beautiful, plump turkey courtesy of Costco, Sam’s Club and based on student nominations!

How to nominate someone:
Students can submit nominations on the Booster Club Facebook page – make sure it’s the Booster Club page, not Ironwood High School. Just “Like” the Booster Club on Facebook, and leave a comment on why your teacher deserves the bird.

If you do not have a Facebook account, you can submit a nomination to the Booster Club e-mail: announcements@ironwoodboosterclub.com You can submit one nomination every day while the contest is going on.

The Bird Results:
Winners will be selected and announced daily, and posted on the Booster Club Facebook page and here.  We’ll also be sending out a weekly recap via e-mail.

So spread the word, get your students involved, and give some deserving teachers the bird this Thanksgiving!

ANOTHER GREAT PROGRAM THE IRONWOOD BOOSTER CLUB SPONSORS:

                                                  IRONWOOD READS

*440 students (just over 22% of our student body!) and 49 adults participated in the reading groups on Monday, October 22nd. This is a new record. Most of our 34 discussion groups were led by students.
*The vast majority of the feedback was positive, and more of our students are showing interest in leading discussions for our next Ironwood Reads.

*Our next Ironwood Reads event will be held on April 15th, 2013. We already have some titles and student leaders ready to commit for the spring event.

Steve Richard, Language Arts Department at Ironwood High School expressed a special thanks to many, including the following:
*All the students involved-please congratulate them-it was another solid turnout.
*The discussion leaders and other staff members that attended.
*Any teacher that either offered extra credit or encouraged a student to read a book and participate.
*Ironwood Booster Club for supplying the pizza for our student leaders.

IRONWOOD BOOSTER CLUB IS HONORED TO HELP SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM!

What has Ironwood Booster Club done lately?  Here's a note of thanks for a recent funding request the Booster Club fulfilled:
Just a quick note to thank you for your contribution to sending me and Paula Somers to the Arizona Suicide Prevention Conference last week. We were able to make quite a few contacts for staff trainings on suicide preventions and learn about some free resources, both national and local, that we can utilize to reach our students. It was definitely two days well spent to help Ironwood’s students and parents and we would not have been able to go without your help! Booster club is just one more reason “It’s Just Better Here”.

Jennifer Goldman, Head Guidance Counselor
Ironwood High School

What a privelege to support this need.  Thank you for your kind words Jennifer!

Volunteers are needed for the Booster Club BBQ at the October 12th Varsity Football homegame.  If you are a Booster Club member and can come help between 5:30 and 7:30 pm, please meet at the gate outside the field at 5:30.  This is a great opportunity to help contribute to a organization that provides funds for special requests and needs at Ironwood High School!  Show your support by helping with set up, cashier needs, serving food, flipping burgers or clean up!!

Welcome New Officers for 2012-2013!

Welcome Beckie Knollhuff, President

Beckie Knollhuff, her husband, Jeff, and their family first relocated to the Peoria School District in 2004. Their family includes 7 children: one who graduated from Ironwood in 2009, one that is currently a sophomore, and two that attend Marshall Ranch Elementary. Rounding out the household is their family dog Alex.

Beckie also works at Meritage Homes in Scottsdale as a real estate paralegal, as well as working with H&R Block seasonally as a tax preparer.

As if that weren’t enough, Beckie has been heavily involved at Marshall Ranch since moving there, serving as PTSO President and Treasurer, as well as chairperson of various school programs. She has seen firsthand the benefits an active Booster Club can bring to a school. Beckie affirms, “I am looking forward to bringing my experience and ideas to assist the Ironwood Booster Club grow and be the best that it can be. See you at the school!”

Welcome Karen Dolyniuk, Vice President
Karen Doyniuk has been involved with the Marshall Ranch PTSO since her son, now 14, was in kindergarten. She has served as Treasurer, Secretary and, most recently as Vice President.
Karen and her husband Jerry have two children - Tyler, a freshman at Ironwood and Jessica , a 7th grader at Marshall Ranch. Karen and Jerry both work for Arizona Public Service (APS); Karen with APS parent company Pinnacle West Capital Corporation as the Manager of Treasury Operations.
Karen decided to take a role on the Booster Club board because she believes as a parent it’s important to be involved in our children’s education, helping to provide the best experience they can have. As Karen says, “Being part of the board allows me to get to know the administration and to help generate funding for items the school may not be able to acquire on its own. I also enjoy getting to know other parents and perhaps sharing experiences that will enhance our knowledge of high school life.”

Welcome Sandy Eberson, Secretary

Sandy Eberson has 3 children that have already graduated from Ironwood High School, and she recently shared that her daughter Chelsea just became a Cardinal's cheerleader. Sandy's youngest son, Ethan, is now a IHS sophmore and is a part of the Varsity Football Team.

In addition to being married, the mother of 4, and involved in volunteering at Marshall Ranch Elementary, Sandy works full time.  She is continuing her tradition of being involved as she launches into new her new role with Ironwood Booster Club.  Sandy is excited for the opportunity to meet some new people, hoping that many more will get involved in the club and make it a great year!

Welcome Melissa Haughee, Treasurer

Melissa Haughee brings a long history of active service in parent organizations to her new role with the Ironwood HS Booster Club. She has been a member of the Marshall Ranch PTSO for the past 8 years, serving on the Board as VP for two years, and was named 2011-2012 Volunteer of the Year.

A part time Realtor, Melissa also owns and operates a construction company with her husband Eric. Their son, Austin, is a freshman and they are looking forward to the new and exciting world of high school.

Melissa originally started with the PTSO as a way to try out volunteering and contribute to the community she lives in. Along the way she has met many wonderful people and has learned a great deal about “giving back”, most of all how rewarding it feels. In her own words, “Our kids are only young once, and the smallest amount of time/involvement we can provide truly makes a difference in their lives! I am looking forward to being an EAGLE and meeting many new friendly faces here at Ironwood High School.”
